History of Symbol:

Oddly enough - and I did not know this until I sat down to write this item decription - this symbol had it's modern origin in the 1960s. The Chaos Symbol was created by sci fi writer Michael Moorcock in his "eternal champion" series.

However, different variations have appeared in a variety of places. Similar symbols have also shown up on ancient Greek pottery. Another similar symbol is also that of the goddess Ishtar or Venus. It is also similar to the Buddhist Dharmacakra, or Wheel of Life. Aleister Crowley also used a similar symbol in his Thoth Tarot deck, to indicate the scattering of energy.
